Description
Lassen Meadow Farms is 220 acres with approximately 160 acres of planted Chandler walnuts. The orchard was planted in 2021. Prior to the development, it was virgin ground composed primarily of Class I and Class II soils. Spacing is 27'x27'. The orchard was deep ripped 5+ feet, then disced, tri-planed, and sloped to allow for surface water to drain. A pond was developed to catch surface water, and is also tied into the irrigation system. The orchard was then planted in spring of 2021, comprised of 96% Chandler walnuts and 4% pollinizers on bareroot clonal Vlach rootstock. The irrigation system is new with the orchard. A 430 foot well with 16 steel casing has production that exceeds 3,200 gpm, and is powered by a new Tier 4 John Deere 375 hp diesel motor. Drip emitters currently provide irrigation water direct to the rootzone, and Nelson R-10 sprinklers are positioned in between every tree to provide full coverage. Currently the entire 160 acres is irrigated at the same time, however, the system is designed to run in several sets once full coverage is needed. A pond was also developed on the southwest corner of the property to provide a secondary irrigation source. It is situated to collect rainwater and direct surface waters from higher elevations.
